What is insulin resistance?
The number one cause of obesity and type 2 diabetes, Alzheimer’s, Hypertension, Inflamation,
Heart Disease and Edema (Water Retention)
Insulin resistance occurs when your body’s cells (muscle, liver, and fat) stop responding properly to insulin, the hormone that allows glucose (sugar) to move from the bloodstream into cells for energy.
The pancreas compensates by producing more insulin
Blood sugar may remain normal for a while
Over time, both insulin and blood sugar rise
This sets the stage for metabolic disease
Think of insulin as a key and the cell as a lock. In insulin resistance, the lock becomes rusty—the key still works, but it takes many more keys to open the door.
What causes insulin resistance?
The most common drivers include:
Chronic high intake of refined carbohydrates and sugars
Constant snacking (never letting insulin come down)
Visceral (belly) fat
Sedentary lifestyle
Poor sleep and chronic stress
Why insulin resistance is so very dangerous?
Insulin resistance is often silent for years—but it causes widespread damage throughout the body.
1.Type 2 diabetes
The pancreas eventually burns out
Blood sugar remains chronically high
Leads to nerve damage, kidney failure, vision loss, and amputations
2. Heart disease & stroke
High insulin promotes inflammation
Raises triglycerides and lowers HDL (“good” cholesterol)
Increases blood pressure
Accelerates arterial plaque formation
3. Obesity (especially belly fat)
High insulin locks fat inside fat cells
Makes weight loss extremely difficult despite calorie restriction
4. Fatty liver disease (NAFLD)
Excess insulin drives fat storage in the liver
Can progress to cirrhosis and liver failure
5. Hormonal disruption
Men: lower testosterone
Women: PCOS, infertility, irregular cycles
Increased cortisol and estrogen imbalance
6. Brain & cognitive decline
Often referred to as “Type 3 diabetes”
Linked to memory loss and increased Alzheimer’s risk
7. Cancer risk
Insulin is a growth hormone
Chronically high insulin can promote tumor growth
Early warning signs
You can be insulin resistant even with “normal” blood sugar.
Common signs include:
Belly fat
Fatigue after meals
Strong cravings for carbs or sweets
Brain fog
Skin tags or dark patches (acanthosis nigricans)
High triglycerides
High fasting insulin (even if glucose is normal)
Key takeaway
Insulin resistance is not just a blood sugar problem—it is a hormonal and metabolic disease that drives most chronic illness in modern society
.
The good news?
Insulin resistance is often reversible with proper nutrition, intermittent fasting, low-carb good fat and good protein diet and exercising 30 minutes a day 6 days a week
